| Neighborhood House wins the Deubener Award!Receives the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce's highest honor for entrepreneurial spirit
 Neighborhood House was honored to receive the Deubener Small Business Award from the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce (SPACC) at the Chamber Honors Gala on November 3.Every
year, the SPACC celebrates small business success with the Deubener
Awards, their highest honor. The Award is named for Walter and Lydia
Deubener, the inventors of the first handled shopping bag, which
increased business at their small grocery store on West 7th Street
overnight. The Deubener Award recognizes growth, excellence, risk, diversity and innovation, and Neighborhood House is honored to have been named the winner in the Non-Profit Service category.
Neighborhood House has been an integral part of the Saint Paul community since 1897, and today we continue our commitment to actively supporting community development. Our comprehensive work in basic needs, adult and family education, youth leadership
and community building helps our participants develop the skills needed
to pursue higher education goals, gain employment and become
self-sufficient, thriving members of our community.Community partnerships have always been a crucial part of the success and longevity of Neighborhood House. Our
programs coordinate with other area organizations to achieve shared
goals, such as the Gang Reduction and Intervention Program's partnership
with the Saint Paul Police. We partner with Trout Brook Vineyards for
workforce development; we build community gardens with Bailey
Nurseries; we set up mock interviews between our ELL students and Nash
Finch executives. From internship and service-learning opportunities
with local schools to our cultural proficiency workshops, we focus on building social partnerships - intentional, mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses and organizations. Through these efforts, Neighborhood House works to have a tangible impact on the lives of all community residents.
