 Neighborhood House Food Shelf
A Hunger Solutions Minnesota Blue Ribbon Food Shelf
Neighborhood House operates the largest single site food shelf in Ramsey County. In 2009, the Neighborhood House Food Shelf served over 38,000 people about half of them children and distributed over 620,000 pounds of food.
Demand at the food shelf is growing: during the last two months of 2009, 66% more people were served by the Neighborhood House Food Shelf than in 2007. We are also seeing many people who had never imagined having to use a food shelf but because of a job loss are in need of help.
Thanks to our multi-cultural, multilingual staff who speak 15 languages, we can link food shelf users to a network of resources to help them address challenges–affordable housing, clothing and financial assistance needs, employment, transportation, language barriers, child care, education and more.
The Neighborhood House Food Shelf is culturally-competent, offering foods that new arrivals from Asia, Africa and Latin America are familiar with and know how to cook.

"I signed up for Neighborhood House’s Summer Adventures program when I was nine. They knew exactly what I was going through. I’m now attending college, and I plan on coming back to Neighborhood House like other alumni."
