Kristina Wolfe came to the English Language Learner (ELL) program as a human service intern from Inver Hills Community College. Kristina was flexible about the content of the internship, recommending to staff that she be assigned “wherever you need the most help.” Her time was split between co-teaching and administrative tasks supporting the ELL/GED program such as entering attendance, tracking volunteer hours and filing. This, and the insightful questions Kristina asked, gave her strong knowledge of our programs, knowledge that helped her shape the ELL volunteer training manual.
In the classroom Kristina was timid at first, but soon a quiet confidence and calm understanding shined through, even with the most frustrated beginning learner. She developed strong relationships and shared laughs with her students, who enjoyed the fun activities Kristina planned.
Using her knowledge and classroom experience, Kristina took ELL student orientation to the next level. She consulted with teachers, created presentation materials for new students and proposed an orientation schedule. The new ELL orientation will be implemented this fall.
